For
this time I shall talk about the 5 series in Sailor Moon, very briefly and
then give my opinions on each. So interesting huh? I knew you
would think so.
Sailor
Moon: Classic
This is the season that started it all. We meet Sailor Moon, a
klutzy, crybaby that would like nothing better than a quick bite to eat
than studying. Here we are introduced to the kitties, as well as the
5 inner soldier, the Moon Princess and Tuxedo Mask. Quite action
packed for such a season. I really enjoyed this season, it's
innocent but still has an air of relatively evil going on. The
brainwashing of Tuxedo Mask and how Sailor Moon has to deal with it is
also a nice twist here. Overall I would rate this serious a 3 outta
of 5 stars. Could have gotten higher if they consider doing it for
an older audience.
Sailor
Moon Romance or Return
This season is in two parts. First deals with Sailor Moon and the
inners having their memories restored and returning to fight a new evil,
Ali and En. These two aliens are an interesting villain but after
awhile their antics between themselves and fighting over Mamoru and Usagi
get old. I think this part is cute but I really glad they didn't
make it longer than it was. The second part follows the manga and
introduces a small bratty child that looks like Usagi and demands the
ginzuishou. We discover her name is also Usagi but is ultimately
called Chibiusa. In time we learn she is being pursed by the Dark
Moon family, people from the future trying to destroy Neo-Tokyo.
Besides having that great storyline, there is another one of the big
breakup between Mamoru and Usagi.
Eventually we learn
why Mamoru has done this and they do get back together. I really
enjoyed this part because the story because it had so much in it.
The villains were interesting and there were two different hierarchies of
them. I liked the whole time concept and how Sailor Moon really
matured trying to get the Dark Moon kingdom to understand the power of
love. I was just tad disappointed about the final battle, it didn't
live up to the first season, but it still told and ended the story.
This is my least favorite season, but I like immensely. I give it
give 1 out of 5 stars, mainly for the first part and the animation quality
and too many filler episodes. I do enjoy the romance drama though.
Sailor
Moon Super
This is my second favorite season. It takes a dark twist and
introduces the outer senshi. It also develops the inners very well
as well as Chibiusa. The villains are phenomenon, especially
Professor Tomoe! In it, Sailor Mars has a disturbing vision of her
friends and the world being destroyed, and instead of telling her friends
of this foreboding vision she brushes it off. The first part of the
series introduces Sailor Uranus and Neptune, two senshi who know their
mission of retrieving three talismans at the cost of having a sacrifice to
get them. They interact with Usagi and the group as acquaintances
and eventually as friends, but when they are senshi, Neptune and Uranus
are quite annoyed with the inner senshi and how they want to save pure
hearts and the individual it belongs too, instead of realizing it is
futile. The second part is when the tailsmans are found and we are
introduced to a new character Hotaru. She is a sickly child who has
no friends because of the strange powers she has.
She is surprised
however to meet a friendly girl who isn't afraid of her and wants to
become friends. Chibiusa and Hotaru become fast friends and bond
with Usagi and the others. Haruka suspects something strange about
the sickly girl and warns Usagi not to let Chibiusa get so close.
Later on Uranus, Pluto and Neptune suspect Hotaru is Sailor Saturn and
want to prevent her awakening for fear she will destroy the Earth.
Instead they are all surprised she is the Messiah of Silence when she
becomes Mistress 9. I love the conflicts and the darkness this
series has. Usagi has become so strong since the first season, and
when she makes her decisions her inner senshi follow her through without
question. The final battle is absolutely amazing, from Pluto's
taboo, to the Neptune and Uranus feeling despair when Sailor Moon
refuses to kill Mistress 9, to well everything! I love this season!
Too bad for the last three episodes, they were really lame and took away
from the ambiance of the finale. This gets 4 out of 5 stars.
Sailor
Moon SuperS
Not many people enjoy this season, but I rather like it. It's
focused around Chibiusa and how she has lovely horse in her dreams named
Pegasus. He is being pursed by a bunch of circus freaks. This
season really shows her growing up from that bratty yet troubled child in
R to a kind, caring preteen. She genuinely is upset by how Usagi and
Mamoru's relationship is at times, and really wants to help Pegasus no
matter what. The outers have left this season and a couple of minor
characters have their last appearances here, from Motoki to Yuuichirou.
It's an extremely
light hearted season, much different from Super with goofy villains and
silly episodes. I think that is the main draw back from this series
is that it really didn't follow the manga and was too child like after
previous season. Still, the animations is subperb, and the character
development continues with the inners, particularly Rei, Ami and Mamoru.
Unfortunately Minako and Usagi really don't progress much, and Minako
tends to get more ditzy here. Still I enjoyed this happy little
season and get many laughs out of it. It gets 2 out of 5 stars.
Sailor
Moon Stars
This is my favorite season. I love everything. The outers
return, and there are new allies, as well as villains who are awesome and
the love twist here is amazing. Like in Sailor Moon R, this one has
two parts, yet they mesh well together. The first part is the defeat
of Nehellenia again, the power up of the outers and the strengthening of
their teamwork. The whole mirror thing is absolutely creepy, and I
rather enjoyed seeing Mercury teamed up with Uranus and ect. This
leads into Sailor Moon's final transformation, Eternal Sailor Moon, and
the introduction of things to come. The next part Mamoru has gotten
a scholarship and goes to America. Before his flight leaves he gives
Usagi an engagement ring and smiles at her one last time. Then his
plane explodes.
We are then
introduced to the wonderful idols, the Three Lights, who in reality
are the Starlights, traveling to Earth in search of their princess.
While on Earth, the main singer of the Three Lights, Seiya, becomes
enraptured by Usagi and pretty much falls in love with her. I love
this part! Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Usagi and Mamoru fan, but
Seiya is so awesome, and angst with his poor unrequited love going on.
This and the appearance of Chibi Chibi and of course Galaxia and the other
Sailor Animates make this my favorite season. The animation is a
different style but still awesome, the music is fantastic and the ending
is wonderful. From Usagi sticking to her own moral standards to her
naivety as she watches Seiya and the others go back home, this is gets 5
out of 5 stars for me. I really wished it followed the manga more
closely, and that's the only con I find, besides it being rushed towards
the end.
Well that's my
opinions on each of the seasons. Sorta of long isn't it? Oh
well, I'm glad you made it here. Thanks for reading!
