Back in October of 2003, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon began airing in Japan! It's a live action Sailor Moon show that is base on the original Sailor Moon anime. There is lots of similarity but mainly it's a strange mesh of anime, manga and new stuff. The show ended with 49 acts and had a wedding episode special. Overall I think it got medicore ratings. Anyways, I'm just going to talk a little bit about who plays Sailor Mercury and talk a little bit about her role in the series.
Now in the show the girls are normal looking(meaning they look like
typical Japanese girls) But when they transform, they look like
their normal counterparts (Sailor Mercury has blue hair..ect). Other
differences is Luna. She's a
stuffed-toy cat that comes to life. She's really kawaii!
Anyway Luna gives Usagi many new spiffy weapons including a locket and lipstick, a cell phone with a camera and a wand. The locket and lipstick transform her into Sailor Moon, and the cell phone is a communicator and also acts like the disguise pen.
Other differences I see is that Nephrite doesn't look like himself. He has a strange mowhawk thing going on. Zoicite looks like Kunzite. And Queen Beryl looks cool now. I didn't like the way she looked in the anime. As for the Sailor Senshi, their fukus are based on the manga.
Mercury doesn't have those three ring should pad things, like she did in the anime. It's sleeveless, like in the manga now! She also has a new attack Mercury Aqua Mist! It looks pretty cool!
As for Ami, she wears glasses. Again following the manga a bit there, but later on she doesn't wear them as much. I think she gets rid of them in Act 5. Ami, well she still the same, very smart, shy and kind!
Overall I like the show. It's the same yet different and well brought up to speed with today. The special effects are ok at times, but the story is still solid! Now Sailor Mercury is played by Hama Chisaki, who in my opinion does a very good job! She portrays Ami very well. I find it odd that she looks so natural with blue hair though.
