Were you wondering:

So.  If you are a Seiya fan, and have looked him up on the net, you may have noticed some things in my info section that's a little inconsistent with some other sites on the net.  Well, I'm going to defend myself.

Validity?

I would like to begin by letting you know I do know what I'm talking about. I have seen the entire series of Sailor Stars a total of 3 times now, and I watched it about 2 months ago, when I began this site. So it is very fresh in my mind, and that is what prompted me to make the site. The version of Sailor Stars I have is subtitled.  So I hope that is proof enough to you that I know the anime very well by now. I may end up watching it all again pretty soon. I don't know. Also. I have the entire Sailor Stars manga, as translated by Tokyo Pop. Now, I know their translation isn't exact, but it's the best I can get.  I have read that several times, and I read all of it in one sitting about 3 weeks ago. (As of August 10th, 2003.) I know the story of the manga pretty well by now. After going through all this, I have come up with my own interpretations of the following questions. They made perfect sense to me as I read through it, and I was shocked at what I read on the internet.  I don't agree with the information on the internet, and so I would like to tell you why.

Siblings?

Okay. So I call them brothers throughout the site. Or sisters, depending on how you want to look at it. Am I accurate? According to the internet, I am NOT. I was very surprised to read this stuff! I'm not going to get into the Kou thing right now, I have that below. So, you may bring up the point that they have birthdays that are months apart. Yeah, they are. But don't read into that too deeply.  Naoko made comments on their birthdays in the Materials Collection Artbook.  It seems that she chose their birthdays based on people she liked.  Seiya has the same birthday as Arnold Schwarzenegger.  Yaten has the same birthday as James Dean.  Taiki has the same birthday as Dante.  Since they aren't from earth, and probably don't have the same calendar, these probably AREN'T their real birthdays. They most likely just picked them out for Earth.  Also, they do look alike. Yeah, so they all have the same hairstyle. That's not what I mean. Granted, they have different facial structures. Taiki has a long face, Seiya's cheeks seem to go out more, and Yaten has a kid-like face.  But they have the SAME EYE STYLE. Observe.

These are Seiya's baby blues.

And these are Taiki's eyes. Would you have been able to tell which was which if I didn't tell you? (And if you didn't see the colors, of course.) They are very similar.

Okay, so Yaten is the different one. He's got HUGE eyes, I know. But that reflects his personality more.  And if you really compare the eye structure, they ARE similar.

Ah, but their coloring is so different. Yaten has the green eyes- silver/white hair, Taiki has purple eyes- brown hair, and Seiya has blue eyes- black hair. Does that mean they aren't related? Take a look at THIS.

Look familiar? The blue one is Usagi's eye, the red one is Chibiusa's eye, and the other blue ones are Mamoru's eyes. Hmmm... Well, Chibiusa's eye style is almost identical to Usagi's. Her hairstyle is similar too. And despite different animators, their eyes are drawn similar because they ARE related! That's why I included Ami's eyes.  They have a different style completely, because she has no relation them!  Starting to get my point? Ah, but look at Mamoru. He looks absolutely NOTHING like Chibiusa. Does that mean they aren't related? Hardly. Chibiusa's eye and hair color is nowhere near that of her parents.

Kou?

Right. so is Kou the first or last name? I believe it is the last name. It supports the theory that the three of them are brothers, which would make perfect sense. When he says his name in the anime, he calls himself "Seiya Kou".  In Japan, you say your last name first, and your first name second. If I was Japanese, I would say I am G Razzy, instead of Razzy G. So people think Yaten, Seiya, and Taiki all have the same first name of Kou. Not so.  The three of them are foreigners. So if I ACTUALLY went to Japan, I would introduce myself as Razzy G, just like I would here in America. So Seiya is his FIRST name. And even if they aren't presenting themselves as foreigners, it is not uncommon for Japanese pop idols to introduce themselves in a western format.  So are they really foreigners? Well, they are obviously aliens. I'm not talking about that. When they are first introduced in the manga, they say their names in Kanji.  Foreigners don't exactly use Kanji for their names. But that really doesn't mean much. Naoko Takeuchi uses hiragana, katakana, and kanji interchangeably. *eye twitch* This is a very weird thing to do. Don't know what I'm talking about? Hiragana is the "main" alphabet of writing the Japanese people use, I suppose. They use it to write out japanese words.  Katakana is a completely different alphabet that is used to write borrowed words.  I would write my name in Katakana, because it is not a native Japanese word.  Kanji is an alphabet borrowed from Chinese. Names and many other Japanese words are written in Kanji. So because Seiya's name is written in Kanji, with Kou coming second, people have assumed that Kou is his first name. Mmmmm... Okay. If this was a normal situation, I would agree with this point. But Nako is a little odd.  She writes normal Japanese words in Katakana. I believe Seiya's name has been written in all three forms before. Because of this, I dismiss the argument that because his name is in Kanji, Kou is his last name.

Besides, isn't it highly unlikely they would all have the same first name? That's silly. Why would they come to Earth and decide to have the same first name?

Gender?

Ah, finally, an easy one to answer.  With this one, I actually AGREE with most people on the internet. The Sailor Starlights are female. Ummm... I don't think I should even HAVE to defend that. But their alter-egos? There are two answers to this question. In the manga, Seiya, Yaten, and Taiki are female.  This is stated several times.  For example: Tin Cat Nyanko pretends to go to Usagi's school.  She is mean to a boy that says he likes her, and Usagi is surprised. She turns to Usagi and says "In the end, I only trust girls. But..." She looks over at the Three Lights.  "I wouldn't trust girls that pretend to be guys, though."

In the anime, they are guys, without a doubt. They aren't just pretending... they ARE guys. They get into different mindsets when they are in the alter-ego forms, and seem to act and think in a more masculine manner. I don't have any exact quotes to prove this one, so you're just going to have to take my word for it.

----

So yeah.  I'm sure that most of you don't exactly agree with my opinion.  But there's no SOLID proof out there that the other way is right either.  So I don't want to hear that I'm wrong without a doubt. This is what I believe is the most accurate information, and I'm just trying to get my opinion out there.  So believe what you want.
