Chapter 10: Trek up that tower!  Sailor Helix escapes a fiery madhouse.

“Slowly rebuilding.  I feel it in me, growing in numbers, and growing in speed.”

Helix had moved her brother to the drier side of the bathroom as she heard this.  She turned around and saw no one there, except a small hamster.

“Did you say something?” She asked him, as she made sure her brother was resting a little more comfortably.  Besides the blood from his ears, he looked fine, except being a little wet.

“No.  What did you hear?”  Beatle was walking towards them.

“I’m not sure, a strange eerie phrase about growing fast and rebuilding.”  He looked inquisitively at her.  “Never mind.  She stood up and glanced around the bathroom.  She spotted her reflection in the mirror and saw she also had blood from her ears.  “Got get rid of that.  I can’t fight my foe, looking like I’ve already lost.”  She grabbed some towels, and wet it in the endless current of water spouting from the sink.

“Helix, I’m sorry I didn’t put up the force field in time.”  She finished one ear and went to the other,

“Is that why the noise stopped?”

“Yes, and my acoustic reversal surge gave you and your brother’s hearing back.”

“Oh.”  She tossed the bloody towel in the trash and saw Beatle look pale and racked with guilt.  “So why didn’t I pass out like Jonathan?”

“It’s because you are Sailor Helix.”  He looked like that was the easiest and most obvious answer to give her.

“That doesn’t make sense.”

“Sure it does, you have powers he doesn’t possess, one including keeping you always alert.  It’s something all Helixian soldiers are taught.”  She raised her eyebrow.

“Is that different from being Sailor Helix?”  he shifted his eyes and stared at his watch.

“Yes….”

“You mean I was a solider before being a Salior?  Is that a different rank or something?”

“Sort of.”  She sighed and looked sadly at Jonathan.

“I don’t have time to listen to this weird stuff.  I got to go.”

“You are right, and I think we….” She shook her head as he trailed off.

“No, ‘we’ aren’t going.  You are protecting Jonathan.  I will go.”  She gave a glare at the door and then gave Beatle a sad smile.  He had the oddest expression on his face as if he was recalling something.  Suddenly he flailed his paws in the air in protest.

“That is out of the question, I have to go with you.  I have to protect you!”  he stressed the “yous” on each sentence.

“Look, I’ve changed Beatle.  I’m not going to run away, and I’m not going to lose.  This has now affected my family and friends.  I can’t lose, I will win!”  Again she smiled at him sadly.  “Please, do this for me, watch over him.  I know you can.  I’ll protect everyone, and I’ll be back.”  He paled, and silently nodded his head.  She gave them both a wistful look and left the chaotic bathroom.

At first she heard nothing as she went back into the area where she was first ushered in.  Then she saw several bodies on the floor.  She kneeled down beside one, and realized that it was the pushy reporter from earlier.

“Got you too, huh?” she thought as she felt for a pulse on the woman.  “It’s faint but she has one.  I’m not too late.”  She then ran and ducked behind a door.  She felt a faint tremor under her feet and then spotted two security guards past her.

“Outside parameter is secured.” She heard a walkie-talkie buzzed.

“Good, our master said that all of us should go outside and protect the parameter.  We have our orders.”  One of the security guards replied back to it.  She held her breath as both of them then walked past her and got out of her sight.  The tremors continued, randomly fading in and out.  Trying to be as stealthy as she could she finally reached the main sound stage.  She hid behind a huge music statue of some sort and noticed that there weren’t any of the guards around.

“They must all be outside.  Which means he is planning for round two, whatever that could be.” she then remembered Jonathan telling her earlier about the big black sound box on stage.  She was too far away from the stage to see, but she vividly recalled that he said it was also used to transmit to the outside.  “Probably to everyone listening to the station as well…” her eyes widened as she realized she had to take out the power and transmit tower.

“Damn it!  Even if I got that tower, what if he has it on webcast or something?”  She then spotted some signs that were for the DJ’s office.  “Bingo!”  Still darting in and out of the shadows, she silently prayed that her enemy wouldn’t be in where she wanted to be.  It felt like an eternity to her as she finally found the DJ’s office.  As she was wandering to it she felt the tremors becoming more constant, this disturbed her a bit.  “What is causing all that?”  she thought as she was about to turn the knob to the main DJ’s office.  She paused as she spotted a shadow in the glass window beside the door.  Ducking she crawled underneath the window, now leaning against the wall.

“These souls are very interesting to watch…”  she heard as she saw an strange blue hue above her head.  She felt her heart pounding, and very light headed.  She wanted to give anything to be out of there, but she saw her brother and her friends faces flash in her mind’s eye.  Sighing she gathered all of her strength to peer in the window.

“Please don’t see me…” she again prayed as she glanced in.  The blinds were partly open and she saw the loveliest thing ever.  She was staring at a glowing shifting orb, about the size of a basketball floating and changing colors.  She saw it was hovering in front of Alpha who was extremely engrossed in watching it, like she was.

“The colors…” she heard him utter as his eyes flicker with amazement.  She felt like she was being absorbed into the same thing when she felt the tremor once again.  That snapped her out of her intense gazing, and she saw it did the same to Alpha.

“Ah, Master you don’t have to wait long.  I almost have enough energy to do it again and this time, I shall have this whole sector!”  she saw him spread out his arms above him to an intense, yet small dark spot above him.  Another tremor, but much more in strength, occurred and caused Helix to fall on her backend.  “Yes Master, just a few more minutes!”  she heard him cackle as she felt like her life was being sucked out of her.

“I gotta get to the radio transmitter first…and now!” she thought while suppressing her rising panic.  Scrambling to her feet she ran away quickly and found some stairs.  She briefly heard the door that she was once at open, but she didn’t dare to look back.  She instead was much more terrified of the thing that was causing all the tremors.

“It’s like I was staring into the mouth of darkness itself…” she inwardly shuddered as she continued to run up the stairs.  “Third floor…huff…fourth…ffuuu”  She was slowing down as the stairs seemed to be endless.  “Geez, how big is the stupid place?  Sixth…seventh…”  Another tremor, caused her to grasp on the railing and she stared down below her.  She saw that it was pitch black.  “Come on Summer!  You can do this!”  “Eight…ugh…”  she troded along feeling like the air was being sucked out of her lungs.

“Why can’t I fly or jump insanely high?  Nooo, all I can do is…” she paused as she saw the tenth floor sign and the exit to the roof.  “Made it!” she opened the door and saw lightening flash.  Squinting her eyes, she was bracing herself for an attack.  Instead, when she could see well again, she saw nothing but the tower itself.  “Odd…why didn’t he put any of his goons up here?  Oh well, my luck!”  She stretched out her right arm and pointed her pinky and index finger at the blinking tower.

“HELIX GOSSAMER NUCLEI!”  the familiar double helix chain shot from her fingers, with the red and green orbs hitting the tower head on.  The collision happened at the same time as a huge clap of thunder.  “Now I just need to walk…unafraid and hold my head high.” She swallowed her fear down as she watch the tower burst into flames.  “I’m prepared to look you in the eye Alpha!” she thought as she walked back to the door as another flash of lightening flashed above her.  The tremor flared up again and she fell once again to her knees.  “I knew this was going to attract you…” she thought as she struggled to get onto her feet.

It started to rain on her as she finally got up, and got back in the stairwell.  “Got to get back down there…” she peered over the side and saw the darkness was much more intense.  “I can’t stand this!”  She started running and darted down the stairwell much faster than she did earlier.  “Fourth floor…wow going down is easier!”

“Spotted her!”  She turned and saw a security guard at the door to the fourth floor.   It didn’t look like a guard or even a person anymore, just a silver mass trying to maintain a human form.

“Now I’m in a low class horror film?” She thought as she suppressed a scream.  She didn’t have much time for anything else as it shot its semi-form silvery arms at her.  She ran down to the third floor landing and shot at it quickly.

“HELIX GOSSAMER NUCLEI!”  The once dark stairwell was now lit in hues of red and green with silver sparkles descending down on her as she continued to run.  She heard another voice, as she was getting closer to the second floor.

“She is too fast master…”

“Don’t look back, I know Alpha is down there waiting for me….”  She jumped over the last few stairs and kicked the door down to the main level.  She saw that she must have gotten a couple more of the silver goons, as it felt squishy under her feet.  “Gross!  Must not puke…”  It was more lit down here and Helix found herself having a harder time, darting in the shadows.  She saw there were more guards.  “Got to make sure not to fight where Sara, Kent and the others are…” she thought as she saw the DJ’s office was now opened.  She didn’t have a clear path to it, as there were numerous silver human like blobs blocking her way.  “My head hurts.” She thought as she stopped and clenched her fists.  She felt her eye twitching as she walked out into the light.

“COWARD!  YOU CAN’T EVEN FIGHT ME ON YOUR OWN?” she screamed at the small army.  She stood her ground, with her fists at her side.  “CAN’T FIGHT A LITTLE GIRL?” she continued to egg on, using his words that he called her previously.  There was no response.  She started to laugh.  She knew the math added up as a loss for her if she had to fight all those things by herself.  At least she would have a chance if he would just do a one on one battle with her.  “Fine, I’ll take you all on.” She glowered at all of them and lifted her right arm.

“That won’t be necessary Sailor Helix.”  She saw the creatures step aside to his voice as he walked out of the DJs office.  “Now that you’ve destroyed the transmitting device, I have some time to play with you, if that is what you want.”  He looked annoyed and tired as he waved them all away from him.  They walked towards Helix and past by her with out touching her.  It was the creepiest feeling that she had ever felt.  He then bowed and smiled at her.  “Ladies first.”

“What is that glowing ball of light you have in there?”  she asked.  She could tell he was taken aback.  “He wasn’t expecting me to talk, and just to attack, or can’t understand how I knew about that ball…” she thought as she maintained her stance.  He flipped some of his blonde hair out of his eyes, revealing a shiny delicate ruby band on his forehead, in the center was a small black stone.  He then smirked and stared at her with his ebony soulless eyes.

“I wasn’t expecting that from you, but somehow I’m not all that surprised.  To reward your sleuthing abilities, I shall answer that for you.”  He took several steps towards her and stopped when she pointed her fingers at him, threatening to attack.  “They are the combination of the goodness in those people that listen to my music.”  She continued to glare at him but was confused by his statement.

“Goodness?”

“Ah, you are perplexed.  What I mean is…” He held his hands up in the air and looked bemused, “…I’ve sucked all the light or what is good about them from their souls.  All that is left is the ugly darkness that my master wishes to rule over.”

“You’ve…WHAT?” she exclaimed in disbelief.  “WHY?”

“Tut.  No need to yell.”  He shrugged his shoulders and laughed smugly.  “Hasn’t that animal friend of yours told you?”  His voice was bitter as he gave her a dark stare.  “My master eats light, it is how he works.  Of course I would have gotten this sector faster with that transmit tower, but I have other means.  It will just take a little longer.”  He then started to form an intense white beam in his hands.  M’sish, my dear Sailor Helix.  Hopefully you will be able to rest in peace this time…”  She sighed knowing very well he was going to attack after telling her so much.

“My super power Beatle…I think I figured it out.” She stared, as the beam was growing larger.  Though time seemed to move very slowly for her in this moment, in reality it was just seconds as he screamed

“H-ALPHA LINE!” and hurled his intense white beam in her direction.  She anticipated this though and dodged it while running right into the DJs office.  She knew he didn’t see her move as he was concentrating on his attack.

“My super power is speed you freak.” She thought, as she looked frantically in office for whatever may help him.  “I’ll just destroy all the computers, that way he can’t use the Internet…”

“HELIX GOSSAMER NUCLEI!”  The room suddenly went ablaze in hues of red and green.  The machines were engulfed in flames.  She then turned her attention to the glowing orb on the desk behind her.  “Light of their souls?” She reached for it and saw that she couldn’t hold it, but it merely hovered above her palms.  “So warm.”  She muttered and felt the room tremor.  She felt a crushing intense pain and if it wasn’t for the orb, she would have fallen on the floor.  Instead she lifted her gaze to the corner of the room and spotted the source of her fear.  She saw the darkest most intense, small spot devoid of all light on the ceiling opposite to all of the technical stuff.  “Gotta get out of here!  I really can’t stand my ground with this orb in my hands!”  she darted of the room and began coughing.

The smoke from the fire in the previous room had really aggravated her throat.  Struggling to see, from the smoky haze in the room, she noticed that there wasn’t anyone around.  All she saw was a small line of fire on the floor, most likely from Alpha’s attack.  “Where is that blonde jer…”  She then felt a cold strong arm around her neck and equally strong hand that grabbed her arms.  She was suddenly pinned against her enemy and saw that the orb that she was once holding was now attached to her front bow.

“My, my what a fast one you are.  I’ve forgotten that you were always good at speed.”  He squeezed her neck more, making her gasp.  “Don’t worry, I won’t kill you…” he whispered into her ear.  She was struggling to breath as he spoke and started to struggle more.  He laughed at her fruitless efforts but was cut short as she stomped on his foot.  “I hope you realized that hurt you more than it did me.”  She was biting her lip as she felt intense pain on the bottom of her right foot.  “Those cute slippers are good for speed, but not against my nice heavy boots.”

“Shutup.” She spat out.  He laughed.

“Do you want to dance?  Remember when I first taught you and how good we were?”

“No.” she uttered out and saw the orb on her front glowed.  She couldn’t help but to stare at it, and suddenly felt absorbed into it.

“Of course not, you don’t have any of your memories, do you?” He said with a strange tone as she continued to gaze at the orb in front of her. “It’s pretty isn’t it?  I think I’ll offer you and it to my master.”  She barely heard him as she saw swirling mixed colors that warmed her heart.  “He’ll forgive me for all the damage you’ve done.  You’ve really set me back destroying all of the methods I had to transmit my sound.  Now I have to go back to square one.”  Her gaze became fixated as she tried to snap out of it, but instead had to listen and be a puppet for this drone.  “Then for once you will be on my side instead of Ariadon’s.” he said in a low whisper with a hint of sadness.

“Who..?” she replied softly.

“Indeed.  Why you followed him, instead of noticing me, I’ll never know.  Now, my master will help you, like with me, restore those memories and show how stupid we were to ever to oppose him.”  His gripped tightened on her wrists and her attention was to that briefly.  “Then we shall be hailed as the greatest duo, instead of you and Ariadon, and become unstoppable!”  He started to push her back into the room she had just left.  Still focusing intensely on the orb she spotted faces in it including Sara’s, and Kent among others swirling around.  They were all happy, and she felt extremely sad and angry suddenly.

“He is going to kill them and me!”  She snapped out of her trance and once again struggled.  “I don’t want any memories back, if it means death of their dreams and hopes!”  She struggled more as he snorted in her ear.  “I’ll never ever follow you and those that want to kill!” she yelled.  It was then she saw out of the corner of her eye, as she was planting her feet into the floor, she saw flash of white.  She then felt the pressure of Alpha’s arm tightened around her neck, causing her to gasp again.  Closing her eyes she knew she was falling, though she didn’t know why but expected a hard and painful fall.   Instead she felt a pair of strong hands hold her steady and opening her eyes she saw a familiar pair of eyes stare back at her.

“Are you ok?”  She squinted her eyes as they were very close to the DJs office with smoke billowing around them.  His face was silhouetted in the thick smoke but she knew whom those familiar hazel eyes belonged to.

“Jonathan?”

“Are you ok?” She nodded her head and looked at her front.  She saw that the orb was still there.

“Here, hang on to this!” She felt it’s warm intense heat as she had it hover in her hands when she pushed it towards him.

“Helix, those are their…?” she heard a familiar voice ask as the smoke cleared for a moment and spotted Beatle on her brother’s shoulder.

“Yes, please protect them both.”

“What are you…?”  The earth started to shake underneath them causing him not to finish his sentence.  She and her brother tumbled onto the floor.  She saw Jonathan struggle to hold the orb and saw Beatle make a blue light shine on Alpha that was beside her, knocked cold.  Looking at him, she knew there was one more loose end left.

“I got one more thing to take care of.” She said darkly and managed to get up to her feet, more quickly and swifter than her brother did.

“Helix…” Beatle barely uttered out as the tremors increased.  She then darted into the thick smoke filled DJs office once again.  “No more buddy.”  Each step in the room she took felt like she had ten tons on her feet.  Sluggishly she stomped slowly to the corner she saw the darkness.  The spot was bigger and again she felt like everything that she held dear was replaced with fear, loathing and complete doom.  “Focus on your family and friends Summer.  You got to get rid of this thing…” she thought repeatedly and she raised her arm to its direction.  The tremors were severe at this point and she leaned heavily on the hot wall behind her.

“HELIX GOSSAMER NUCLEI!”  she saw in horror as her power left her fingers, and was completely absorbed into the darkness.  “What?”

“Stop resisting, and join me.  I’ll give you everything you wanted, no responsibilities, no more having your world resting on your shoulders.  You can be carefree.  Just give up and realize you and everything else that has light belongs to me.”  She heard a dark ominous yet soothing voice speak in her mind.

“No..” she weakly replied and felt like she was being drugged.  “Is that how you tricked Alpha?” she felt so tired.

“Rest, I’ll take good care of you.  Come to me, give me your light and I’ll give you everything you want.”  She slowly saw herself walking to the darkness.

“No…stop Summer.”  She closed her eyes as her feet continue to betray her.  “I need help, someone, anyone help me!”  In her mind’s eye she saw the faces of her friends, her classmates, her brother, her parents and Beatle all smile at her.  “Please give me your strength, or I’m afraid we are…”  Sara grabbed her shoulder and Summer looked behind her and saw everyone was there smiling.  She then felt someone raise her arm and saw her mother holding it, and directing her.

“Mom?”  she gave her a gentle kind smile and spotted an unfamiliar man beside her, with black hair in a red fancy coat, pointing at the sky.  He nodded his head and she focused all her attention to the area he was pointing at.  Summer felt an intense soothing warm energy flow through her.  Opening her eyes she was glowing a bright green as she shouted “HELIX GOSSAMER NUCLEI!”  Vivid hot orbs shot out of her fingers, criss-crossed into a familiar DNA chain, grew brighter with hues of red and green and hit the darkness.  It shattered like she had hit a mirror, causing tons of sparkles, flooding the entire area.

“Thank you…” she whispered to those that had helped and proceeded to fall to her knees.  Helix then started coughing violently and weakly saw the room was entirely engulfed in flames.  “Damn, I’m going to be fried…” she thought as she could barely keep her eyes open.  Before they closed completely she saw a blue leg in her face.  Helix then fell to the floor and happily thought of a lovely summer day at the beach.  “I really wanted to celebrate today there…”

It was very annoying to be woken up by a very cold splash of water, but this is the situation Summer found herself in.

“ARGH!”  she cried out and opened her eyes slowly.

“You awake?”

“What does it look like?” she replied crossly and wiped her eyes.  Focusing she saw her brother giving her a worried look.  “Where are we?” she peered around and saw Beatle on Jonathan’s shoulder, having a huge sigh of relief.

“We are in this messed up ladies lavatory, ma’am.” Jonathan said with a little air of snootiness.

“Oh really?”  she replied back in the same tone and saw the sinks were still spouting out water and the floor almost drenched in it.  “So we are.”  She saw that Jonathan was sitting in front of her grinning ear to ear.  She smiled back and then looked down at her lap.  She noticed that she was wearing her black baggy pants and matching goth boots.  Summer became pale and felt her eyes widened as she looked at him.

“What?”

“You know, don’t you?”  He looked serious and nodded his head.  “I know some things, from what your hamster has told me.”  Summer closed her eyes and sighed.

“Can I just say that was just a dream and be done with it?”

“No.  Not going to work, you almost died you know.”  She stared at him and saw Beatle looking really depressed.

“I’m really glad this hamster has a odd assortment of protection devices, he put a force field on me, and I carried you out of there, before that room collapsed.  “Then the strangest things started to happen.”

“Such as?” Summer probed as he paused for a moment.

“Well that glowing ball you gave me, flew high in the sky and dispersed it’s light to all the people lying about.”  It was Summer’s turn to have a huge sigh of relief.

“Thank God…” she whispered and pressed her hand over her throbbing heart.  She felt her brother’s intense stare and looked over at him.  “Please continue.”  He raised his eyebrow and cleared his throat.

“Then that…” his voice lowered as a dark look crossed his face.  “That pervert that was holding you disappeared, like he teleported or something.”  Jonathan then pounded the floor and Summer turned to look at the walls.  She hated it when her brother got that angry and wished she could calm him down.

“It wasn’t his fault…” she thought as she remembered how the darkness was trying to drag her down to Alpha’s level.  She didn’t hate him anymore, but actually pitied the poor man.  “He lost his battle, and I could have easily…” she put her hand to her head.

“Summer?”

“Please continue…” she stammered out.

“Sure.  I didn’t mean to upset you.” She felt his hand on her shoulder.  She looked up, smiled and nodded.  “Well then I was carrying you, I didn’t want people to see you like that…” he gave her an odd look.  Looking sheepish she shrugged.  She really didn’t know how to respond to that remark.  “So your little friend suggested that I carry you back here.  It was weird that the moment I set you on the floor in here, you gave off a funny glow and suddenly you looked normal again.”

“Ah.”  A long awkward pause followed before he cleared his throat.

“Your turn missy.  You have quite a bit of explaining to do.”  Summer looked at Beatle and saw that he looked sheepish.

“What did he tell you?”  Her brother looked over to the hamster and smirked.

“Not much, except he said you were in grave danger and if we didn’t find you….”  Jonathan trailed off as he shook his head.  “Well he was right, if I didn’t come at that moment, that pervert would have dragged you down with him…..”

“Ah.”  Summer glanced at Beatle, reached out and picked him up.  “It’s really weird to explain…” she laughed nervously as she put the hamster on her shoulder.

“Go ahead…” he gave her a deadpan look.  She knew he was very serious.

“I’m kinda a freak, or super hero, or something.  I save the world from other evil freaks?”  she heard Beatle snort at her sad attempt to explain her situation.

“What?”

“You aren’t a freak, you are a heroine, one of the best, strongest around.  Have more confidence in yourself Summer.  You just defeated a fragment of Dark Matter all by yourself, which is astonishing, especially since we are so far away from our home.  I couldn’t believe the amount of power you demonstrated back there.”  He gave her such a proud and amazed look, which shocked both her and her brother when they saw it and listened to his little speech.

“Beatle…” she quietly said.  “I mean it.  Your brother should be proud to have you for a sister.”  She felt her cheeks flush as she glanced down at her hands.

“I am.  I’ve always been.”  She raised her eyes and saw that her brother looked very serious.  “I just don’t like the fact that you almost died.  No matter how good you are, you are still human…” she lowered her eyes again and felt Beatle stiffen.

“Look, I’m really exhausted.  I don’t really want to talk about this further.”

“Well that’s understandable.  I assume that your strange technology has its limits, even to healing her, huh?”  Summer turn to look at Beatle as he nodded his head.  “Do you feel like you can stand?”

“I think so…” she watched her brother stand first and he lowered his hand to help her up.  She grabbed it and felt like her legs were made out of rubber.

“Woah.  This isn’t good.” She slowly rose while he pulled her up, and then she leaned on him while biting her lip in frustration.

“I’m sorry…I feel so drained and heavy.”

“It’s the effects of being so close to Dark Matter.  You need several days of good rest before you’ll feel better.”

“Well, first got to get you back home.  Ok, piggy back ride, like when we were kids.”  Summer sighed.  She didn’t want her brother have to carry her again, he had to be tired.

“I’m really heavy now…I’ll throw your back out.”  He laughed.

“I know you are bigger, and I’m a little older than you, but I do work out.  I can manage.”  She snorted.

“A little older, you are seven years older!  You are like an old man.”  He raised his eyebrow and snorted back at her.

“I see you have enough energy to crack jokes.  Now come on.”  Reluctantly she complied and felt really childish as he slowly carried her out.

“Jonathan?” she whispered as her head leaned on his shoulder.

“I’m ok.  Look I can do this, if you can save Seattle in one night from the fires of Hell, I can certainly carry you out of here.”

“Thank you.” She smiled as she saw Beatle scurry onto Jonathan’s shoulder, so he was facing Summer.  “You look tired.” She whispered to him and noticed they left the waterlogged bathroom.  The hamster smiled at her and touched her nose with his paw.  He didn’t speak since they were entering the public’s view, but Summer knew he was racked with guilt more than anything else.  She gave him a gentle smile, and wondered why he freaked out.  Before she could ponder that, she felt him go into her tangled hair.

“Summer!  OMG, are you ok?”  she heard Sara exclaim.  She couldn’t see her, but felt Jonathan stop.

“What happened?” Kent was there as well and Summer spotted him barely to Jonathan’s left.  She was very tired and had a hard time keeping her eyes open.

“She had a severe allergy attack to all this smoke, I gotta get her home.” She heard Jonathan tell them as he started walking again.

“I’m so glad they are ok.” She thought happily as she heard her friends voices drown out.  She was getting very tired.

“Is that the truth?”  Summer struggled to get her eyes open again, when she felt Jonathan slow down.

“Claire.  Please move.”

“I have a funny feeling that you two, particularly your sleepy sister there, knows what happened.”

“Stop it.  You are just angry that I didn’t give you an interview, now please move.”  He was slowly sidestepping her.  Summer was now able to see who was annoying him.

“Oh, the short, rude black hair woman.  I’m glad she is ok…”  Her eye caught the woman named Claire sky blue ones.  The woman stopped and gave Summer such a bewildered look.

“I know you were there…and…”  Jonathan was walking faster and getting into a crowd of people who were being directed to the exit.  Summer lifted her head and turned to look at her vanishing form in the crowd and haze.

“Don’t pay her any attention, she is just angry old flame…” Jonathan muttered darkly.

“and…thank you!” Claire’s trumpeted voice interrupted Jonathan’s dark vibe he was giving off.

“Does she remember me…?” Summer quietly spoke and rested her head back on her brother’s shoulder.  “There is no way….”  She was perplexed, and happy that her brother didn’t say anything.  It seemed like years before he managed to get away from the barrage of cops, security guards, EMS, fireman and hoards of reporters.

Summer was even more baffled that no one else stopped them from leaving, especially since she obviously looked like she needed medical attention.  She did wake up more when she realized they were outside as drops of rain once again fell on her head.

“Ok squirt, I’m at the car, I’m going to have to put you down…”

“I’ll help her balance.” She heard Beatle say as he appeared again on her shoulder.

“Ok.  Here we go.”  It was strange, not really having any sensation in your legs, but still feel like some strong force was keeping her upright.  She felt like she was underwater, with a huge cement block tied to her feet, keeping her still.  In the brief moment, her brother then helped her sit down and put her legs in the car.  He buckled her seat belt and shut the door.

“I think my computer is a little stronger.” She heard Beatle say as her brother started up the car.  “It has some of its old abilities back, including masking us from all those strange officials.”

“Why didn’t you make that work we when saw miss nosy Claire?” Jonathan spat out.

“Well, I started to notice it after that.  That was rather startling.  Summer did you help her…?” Beatle asked but trailed off.  Her eyes were closed and though she wasn’t asleep, she felt it coming.

“I checked her pulse…” she said very sleepily and drifted off into a dark, warm yet sad slumber.  She didn’t remember coming home, her parents fussing over her as her brother feebly coming up with an excuse to explain what happened.  Nor  did she remember her friends calling her the next day as she faded in and out of a deep dreamless sleep.  She did remember Beatle reassuring her brother that she didn’t need to go to a hospital, but just needed to sleep it off.

She woke up once and saw her mother’s lovely face staring at her.  After seeing her mother, her dreams weren’t as disturbing and she finally felt like she was getting rest.  In her last dream she saw the black hair man again with the strange general red fancy coat.  He was bowing at her as she was walking in a glittering cloud like ballroom.

“You aren’t nervous are you?”  He chuckled at her as he took her arm.  It was strange to see herself in a lovely green cascading gown walking with this individual.  It was as if she was watching a movie, starring herself.

“No, I just don’t like crowds, getting dressed up and…”

“Having the possibility that you will have to dance.”  Summer saw herself look rather annoyed at the man who finished her sentence for her.

“Yes, that as well.  Why couldn’t this whole thing been done in secret, or at least not include some sort of fancy ball?”  The man laughed as he walked them both up a long flight of crystal looking stairs.

“It’s the ways of the court my uncouth friend.  You have much to learn of the airs of royalty.”

“Hmph, it’s a waste of time, I rather be sharpening up my skills or something.”  Her voice was drowned out as they reached the top of the stairs and into a large foyer filled with lots of people dressed very elegantly.

“Congratulations!”  a short cute curly redhead with a strange tattoo over her eye came up to them both and gave a curtsy.

“Princess…” Summer saw herself looking rather flustered as she was trying to curtsy back, but couldn’t as the man holding her arm wouldn’t let her.

“Oh no need to be so formal, unless you want me to call you High Senshi of the Nebulas.”  The little princess laughed and smiled gently to the man.

“Thank you for making her refrain,” then turn to look at Summer’s dream self while continuing her sentence, “after all this is your night, your inauguration, Summer!”  Summer saw her own self blush and laugh nervously.

“I’m obviously uncomfortable in this situation…actually still am.” Summer thought as she looked about the room.  She saw several other pretty women approach her dream self and the man.  One looked very familiar.  “That’s…” she gasped as she saw a skinny woman, several inches shorter than her approach and give a curtsy in a lovely midnight blue dress with gold accents.  Her hair was a very pretty sky blue in color braided to the side.

“Sailor Eat Carps…erh…Eta Carina or something.  Why is she in my dream?  Is this a dream?  Or something else…”  She gasped again as she saw a group of men approach them as well.  One of them being Alpha.  He walked over to the man with the red coat and said something that made him stiffen up.  “They look alike, minus the hair, both with chocolate brown eyes and tan complexion…” Summer paled as she heard Alpha talk to her supposed dream self and found it odd that Alpha had an eye color, not the soulless black ones she knew him to have now.

“If no one has asked you yet,” she heard him say while bowing, “may I have the first dance after Lady Helix officially names you High Senshi of the Nebulas?”  Summer saw her black haired escort glare at Alpha as she heard herself barely reply,

“I’m flattered Alpha, but I’m afraid I don’t know how.  I think I’ll just sit it out, perhaps if you asked Princess Trein or…”  Alpha then grabbed her hand and kissed it gingerly.

“Then let me teach you, I know you are quick on your feet, I’m sure you’ll be a fast learner.”

“She is, but I’m sure she will just chicken out.”  Summer saw woman about her height flick back her brunette hair with purple tips as she spoke indignantly.

“Vio!” a tall dark skinned woman with blonde hair hissed at the brunette, who was wearing a gorgeous dark purple gown that got lighter when it trailed down to the floor.

“What?  Did I say something wrong?” she smirked at Summer who let go of the gentlemen that had been holding her arm.

“No.” she said with an air of annoyance and then turned her attention to the bold blonde, still staring at her, now looking very amused.  “I assure you Mr. Alpha, I am a fast learner, and would be honored to have you teach me.”

“Lovely.  I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”  He bowed, let go of her hand and also gave a polite bow to the woman in purple before walking off with three other gentlemen.

“You still need to work on your manners Vio.”  The tall blonde sighed as she walked towards the crowd with the little princess.

“Oh my, Vio, you may have upset Rain and Summer…”  the blue haired woman said as Summer watched herself being escorted again by the man.

“I can’t help it, something has to liven up this boring ball.  Besides, it wouldn’t be a normal night if we didn’t bicker or have a friendly competition about something.” She heard her reply back, as Summer was frantically trying to catch up with herself.  Summer realized the dream was slowly fading out, and before it did, she glanced about and spotted an astonishing looking woman further away from everyone, surrounded by a huge entourage.  She was simply shimmering head to toe, and Summer found it difficult to look away from her.

“Lady Helix…” Summer instantly knew who she was as the woman, the images of the people, the cloud dream like atmosphere faded away.  She then woke up finding herself instead of looking at an endless night sky filled with a multitude colorful gorgeous gaseous clouds, was now her plain ceiling with it’s familiar fan slowly spinning.

“What was that?” she thought as she continued to look up.  “Was I staring in a mirror looking at myself in another world, or did that really happen?”  She knew from that moment, whatever the answer was, her ordinary life was over.  Suddenly she was embarking on a strange journey; not only to save the world, but also to discover things about herself she didn’t even know.

She found this thought to be exciting, but tiring at the same time.  She yawned and watched the sunlight glisten amongst her room and wearily smiled.  “No matter what may come though, I’ll defend everyone.”  With that thought she felt stronger and ready to face whatever may come.
